Hi,
I live in Canada where Verizon is unavailable for internet or phone
service.
I want to retain high speed service in Florida for the winter. My local
server only provides dial up service in Florida. I have Comcast for TV
and Verizon is my phone company, when down south.
Are you happy with Verizon high speed internet service and would you
recommend them for a six month annual package or would you go with
Comcast, taking into account; service, reliability and most important
price.
Thanks.
Roger

You should ask this question in the Verizon dsl group, no the Verizon
Wireless group, which is for cell phones.

But I can tell you my Comcast Internet access blows away DSL in terms
of speed, etc.

I'll save the $16 a month & go with the "SLOW" DSL.

I would imagine that most cable modem type Internet services are faster and
more reliable then DSL. I've had both at the same time for many years and
found myself using the cable modem Internet service much, much more then
DSL. For how reliable it was and just much faster then the DSL connection I
had. Also, with DSL so much depends on how far away you are from the CO
(central office). All those advertised speeds that DSL may offer you may be
able to get just the lowest. I find this a lot with most people.

Mike, being a Comcast employee, is probably biased, but I have to say I
agree with him. Verizon is actually not anywhere near as evil as SBC, who
will fight you tooth and nail if you attempt to get a credit for service
outages, but they still suck. I've used Adelphia back home and Charter now
that I live in a Charter market area, and have found both to be much more
reliable than DSL; switched from SBC residential DSL to Adelphia cable when
they introduced cablemodem service in Lake County, Ohio, and now have
Charter at home and, unfortunately, work at a place where I've had to go
back and forth with Verizon about fixing a business DSL line the company
pays for.

Yup. I like using cable and not having to worry about distance from the CO.
Hell, I'm five miles from the Verizon CO that services my phone line
(driving distance, wire distance might be slightly less). Verizon finally
got around to putting a remote DSLAM near me, so I can get DSL, but Charter
was the only company offering broadband when I moved to Apple Valley (not
that I would have considered the phone company as an alternative).
It's going to be tough when Verizon introduces FIOS in Apple Valley, one of
the cities slated for a FIOS launch according to a recent VZ press release.
Do I stick with what I know works, or do I try FIOS and its much higher
speeds, even though I swore never to pay a telco for broadband Internet
service again? Gahh...

Oh I'm sure it does, as did my Comcast cable. Unfortunately, the
comcast internet connection was so unreliable where I lived that it was
mostly useless, and I had to go to Verizon. At 3Mbps (which is the
speed Comcast provided before the recent upgraded, right about when I
moved) I'm quite happy with the speed, and the reliability is good too.
Oh, and the lower price is even better.
Of course, YMMV.

That's because you are a ****ing moron. For the price of decent dinner out
you can have cable internet access 10x faster that ****ty DSL.

My error; I directed the OP here on the basis of Vz EVDO when it is
obvious he wanted FIOS/DSL.
