I have the Samsung A890 and was wondering if it is possible to add words
to the T9 dictionary so that I dont have to switch between ABC mode and
T9 mode every time that I want to enter a word not in the dictionary
such as names and places?

Yes there is, and it should be in your phone's manual, but I've never been
very successful adding words on the LG models that I've had with T9. I much
prefer the 'itap' method that my Motorola V710 uses as the words seem to be
added automatically that I've typed out, with no input necessary from
me..:-)

Try entering a big word that is unlikely to be in the dictionary and
see if a screen eventually pops up asking if you want to spell out the
word and add it to the dictionary. I've run into that on my Kyocera
KX1.

On my Samsung A670, you just switch to ABC mode, spell the word, then
switch back to T9. The next time you go to use that word, it should be in
your T9 dictionary. I'm going to guess the A890 works the same way.

Nope, doesn't work on my A890. I've been wondering how to accomplish this as
well.

I have searched all over the users manual for my A890 and there seems to be
NO WAY to add a word to the T9 dictionary. Unbelievable for a high-end phone
like this.

That's why I like the Itap method (used by Motorola and some others) a LOT
better than the T9 method. I don't have to 'add' words to the dictionary,
they automatically get added!

A T9 phone is supposed to automatically add words to the dictionary. Just
switch to multitap mode, enter the word followed by a space, then switch
back to T9 mode. I have yet to see a phone whose manual actually describes
this in an understandable way.
For more info, see http://www.t9.com. To see how to add a word, click on
"demo", then choose "Add your own words to T9 (Beijing)".

Damon, I have tried this 20 times. Simple enough, but it does NOT work with
the A890. Unbelievable, but there seems to be NO WAY to add a word to the T9
dictionary in this phone.
