Has anyone had a problem with this? Our neighbor tried to call this
morning but got two messages, one for my phone and one for my wife's
phone. The error message on my phone said something about the phone
not being able to be completed. My wife's phone had the typical,
"doo-doo-doo, this call cannot be completed as dialed". We called
Verizon who suggested it was not with them, but with BellSouth.
Verizon suggested that this happens once every two weeks or so.
We have only had our phones for a week. SBC landlines work fine
(tested at Verizon), as well as other Verison phones.

Was it James Earl Jones' voice or BellSouth usual female voice? If
the former, then the VZW cell site was probably congested and couldn't
find you. If the latter, then I think BS had a switch issue. It's
not like I haven't been through a few of those in the past many years.
FWIW, while I don't have this problem very often, it does happen with
other carriers' customers, too. I've even had it when calling a
Verizon (wireline) number from my BS line. So, it's not limited to
VZW. I'd guess BS's switch is having trouble reaching another
provider's switch.

Re: BellSouth landlines to Verison cell phones
UPDATE:
We figured out part of the problem with my wife's phone - the phone
number they gave us was for a different area! Verizon fixed that for
us and changed her number.
However, both of our phones are still not ringing like they should. It
is the James Earl Jones' voice and says, "Welcome to Verizon." So it
would seem that it is a Verizon issue, though they claim it is not. I
don't think it's a congestion issue - we've tried numerous times
(morning, afternoon and evening) and from four different phones.
BellSouth is suppose to be working on it. They should have something
by tomorrow evening.

How about from different areas? The problem is starting to sound like
a cell site issue.

Yeah, this is the same company that takes 7 (yes, seven) months to get
phone books out of. I'm sure they'll get right on it.
Good luck, anyways.

Re: BellSouth landlines to Verison cell phones
My wife went into a Verizon store to talk to an actual person (not the
"self-help" computer on the phone). Here's what she found out:
Apparently, Verizon just purchased the phone numbers that we received.
So, BellSouth has not had a chance to input the numbers into the new
area code and it's considered "long distance" from any of the local
numbers. Verizon was suppose to get this worked out, but it may be on
the BellSouth end. ("Yeah, this is the same company that takes 7 [yes,
seven] months to get phone books out of. I'm sure they'll get right on
it.")
So we'll see.
