I just got a VX8100, which is the first full featured phone I've ever
had. My only other phone was the very basic free Moto that Verizon
gave me 2+ years ago. I've been a PDA user for years but now I can't
sync my PDA at work so I sold it and decided to just use a phone.
I'm looking for apps for the phone and all I see are games, video, MP3
and ringtones! Do people just sit and play with these phones all day?
Don't people need more business type applications?
All I need is a simple little DB app to store account numbers,
passwords, etc. The data would have to be encrypted and password
protected. There are about 50 of these apps for Palm OS. Why are there
zero for my BREW-enabled cell phone?
I know I didn't purchase a smartphone but if I can play Need for Speed
2 in 3D on this phone, shouldn't I be able to keep track of a few
pieces of data?
I'm really shocked that the apps available seem to be 99% for
entertaiment and 1% for productivity. Anyone know where I can get a
simple DB app for BREW?

Looks like you got the wrong phone! After all it is a PHONE above all else.
The games and such are what today's 'young generation' seems to want (I'm
61, so count me out on that one).
So before your two week trial period is out, I would check to see if VZW
offers anything else that might be more suitable for your uses..

I agree with the above post from Bob the Printer. Try a Palm or Windows
based phone. How about the Treo 650?
Cost may be an issue tho

Re: I need a simple database app for VX8100
Thanks guys. I totally understand that I went with a standard phone
vs. a smartphone. As I said, I've been a Palm user for years. But now
my company won't let me sync a Palm device. I also see EVERYONE in the
world with these new cell phones so I thought there would be more apps
available for the standard phones. Plus Andy is right about the cost.
Why do I have to spend $300 to be able to put more apps on my device?
There is no technical reason that it can't be done. My phone can do
video and 3D gaming. The contact list is already a database. Just
give me the ability to create new databases that are encrypted and
password protected.
I guess this just shows the vast difference in audiences between PDA
users and phone users. I guess the adults with phones just use them as
phones and never wanted/needed a PDA. The teens and 20-somethings
enjoy the ringtones and video and games. Just seems like a total waste
of power IMHO.

I do believe that there are programs that allow you to synch with a
computer.
I do know that my old V60i was TrueSync compatible. I used that to manage
my contact
list. Unfortunately, TrueSync is no longer put out.
Might I suggest trying www.us.lg.com and looking around there.
May also want to try asking VZW. They may have an idea of where to proceed.
