Question regarding the Moto E815

Just purchased the MOTO E815 and want to use it with my computer would I
be better off getting the Mobile Office Kit, or would it work with just
a blue tooth usb thingy? (whatever you call it) Or would it require
both? I am new to this so just need some clarification. I understand
with the MOK all you need to do is install with the CD and the USB and
it will connect to the Get it Now on Verizon. But is that necessary?
From what I gather I would need both. Or am I wrong as usual.

I can partially answer your question. I have the e815 and I just got a USB
cable and the Motorola Phone Tools from EBay. Once I sorted out a problem
with some of my USB ports it was easy to connect the phone with the PC to
sync contacts, schedules, etc. I also have a Belkin BT dongle and I still
have not got it working properly. The problem is with Windows XP which
makes it very difficult to install the Belkin/Widcomm drivers that work with
the dongle (XP installs MS Bluetooth drivers).

Regarding "Get It Now" you can already access that on the phone - nothing
additional is needed AFAIK. Hope this helps.

I have an IOGEAR BT dongle and got it working on first try. I would
say the BT connection is the way to go. I have the cable also and
have trouble keeping a connection to the phone.

TIP: Install the drivers for the dongle BEFORE plugging it in. Plug
it in when asked and it'll use the drivers that just got installed.
If it doesn't, you can always go into device manager and change the
driver it uses by going into the dongle properties, selecting the
update driver button and telling it where to go for the drivers.

FWIW, if the microsoft drivers are installed first it's necessary to disable
the microsoft bluetooth service in addition to changing the drivers on the
device.

The problem with the ebay cables is they may not be moto OEM cables, alot
of people have had problems with the aftermarket ones so be aware of this.
HowardForums.com has alot of info on the 815 including how to do seem edits
to turn on the full obe bt functions. I just installed an
AM/FM/CD/BlueTooth Jensen head unit in my jeep, works great but there is an
issue with downloading contact names, phone numbers come down fine but the
names don't display correclty in the radios LCD. It also does not display
sound tracks but that may be the ripping software I used to convert to mpgs
so I don't have to carry the ones I bought.

Again Rich, thanks for your help I went to the site and checked it out.
Lots of information there also. I did order the OEM disk and cable
from a firm called ACC and it stated that both were OEM. They did have
those with .99 cent plus shipping which I assumed were the ones you
talked about. I just got my Wilson Truckers antenna in so on my next
trip to the boonies I should be able to get a decent signal. Might just
look into replacing my almost dead radio in the MH with something like
what you did. Hmm even copied your info from the web site where you
were talking about your installation. My brother is a techie type and I
sent
it to him also. (grin)

The progression I did was the HS850 right after I got the phone, then I
bought the S9950a hardwired moto in car kit with the hang up cup. I used
an antenna specialties antenna, thru the glass type and that attaches to
the hangup cup NOT the moto control box. I have not used the moto control
box since the head unit went in and with the antenna plugging into the
hangup cup no longer need the hardwire kit as I always attach to the
jensen head unit now. The S9950 comes out on friday when I have the jeep
in the shop for inspection and I'm PM'ng his computers. One of the people
on hofo mentioned that the car charger will plug into the hang up cup and
he was right, it does, so the only reason for keeping the hardwired it is
no longer valid and I can get rid of that ugly speaker under the dash.
Be aware that if you bought the wilson antenna with the TNC adapter on
the end and the plugged another adapter to get to the phone on to the TNC
end you may break even, most adapter to adapters cause a 3db loss vs the
antenna with the correct connector on it initially.
Oh, the hangup cup on my jeep is mounted with a vehicle specific mount
for my vehicle, do a yahoo seach on VSM or Vehicle Specific mounts. The
great part about this whole setup is that the only thing that is semi-
permanent is the glass mount antenna. Everything else comes out with no
indication it's ever been in there. Have a good thanksgiving, heading to
the inlaws for turkey day..
