LG 8100 Status Light

On the LG 8100, there is a setting called Status Light. I have it set
to on, but cannot tell what it does. Can anybody tell me what the
status light setting is for? One thing I dislike about this phone, is
when it is closed and the screen turns off, there is no way to know if
the phone is on or off.

Thanks for any help you can offer me.

Jeff

A - HA!!!! You've just solved a mystery for me. We have two of the LG
VX5200, which is the non-bluetooth version of the VX8100. Our VX5200 phones
are equipped with a status light, which is a little LED (red and green) on
the front, near the antenna. I can't figure out how to turn it on. There
is no menu option for it. The status light only comes on during a phone
call, which is not helpful AT ALL. If you are on the phone talking to
somebody, then you don't need a status light to tell you that the phone is
on and that you have signal!

Somebody else wrote earlier that the VX8100 does not have a status light.
Now YOU post that in your VX8100 you have the menu setting to turn the
status light on or off. So . . . the VX5200 has a status light that you
can't turn on, and the VX8100 allows you to turn on a status light that
doesn't exist!!!

I agree . . . one MAJOR annoyance with the VX5200 (and the VX8100,
apparently) is that there is no way to tell that the phone is ON. The
backlight will time out after a while, and then there is no indication that
the phone is working. Very annoying. -Dave

Re: LG 8100 Status Light

I got the following information off of Howard Forums. Maybe this is
something that might help. ***Please note that I got this off a thread for
the VX8000. It may apply to the 8100 which is very similar to the 8000 but
I don't know about the 5200.***

>>>This is for everyone that hates it when the external and internal
>>>displays go black after 2 minutes. You can fix this by going into the
>>>Service Menu. Keep in mind, if after doing this you turn your phone off
>>>and on, this will be reset back to factory default.

1) Press "OK"
2) Press "0" (zero)
3) Service Code "000000" (six zeros)
4) Select "2. Field Test"
5) Select "*. Power Save Mode"
6) Select "Off" and OK
7) Clear out of service mode

Now the internal and exteral displays will not turn black after 2 minutes.
According to those who've implemented this, it does not seem to drain the
battery much faster than the default scenario.<<<

Re: LG 8100 Status Light

Works on a VX8000...
Closed, the front screen appears to stay on at the low setting after timeout.
Open, the inside screen appears stays on at the low setting after timeout.

BTW, the light in the hinge near the antenna is an activity light. It is needed to show incoming when both sound and vibrate are off.

This is major problem with this remedy. Makes it worthless, almost.

Re: LG 8100 Status Light

If the phone is turned on by you, why would you need some flashing light to
let you know it's still on ?
Its on till you turn it off, Unless you run it out of power.
