Midwest history question

When Ameritech Cellular first went digital, was it TDMA or CDMA?

If it was TDMA, then the Chicago market had to be converted to CDMA when it
was spun off to GTE, which soon folded into Verizon Wireless.

OTOH, if it was CDMA, then everywhere except Chicago had to convert to TDMA
to be merged into what became Cingular.

Just curious.

It was TDMA in Cleveland, so I assume it was also TDMA in Chicago.

Thanks. I went straight from my original Ameritech analog mini-brick to a
VZW Kyocera.

AFAIK our first phones with Ameritech Cellular, LGC-330W phones, were CDMA.
Can't say as that was when they first went digital, but they were that way
from the time we joined up until they got subsumed by GTE and then Verizon.
