Want to know if anyone has 1st hand experience or educated guess about
whether my Verizon cell (homebased in Seattle) will work in Merritt, BC.
It's surrounded by mountains, Hope, BC is nearby & not as down in a valley,
I expect I may have a better chance there. ??????

Note that it works just fine in Vancouver...............despite no info
about coverage in Canada anywhere on Verizon website (but your vm msg info
is "dead" till you cross the border back into the US at the Peace Arch)

I can tell you that Verizon coverage in Whatcom Country, just south of
BC, is terrible. It's not too bad in B'ham, but everywhere else, it's
a crap shoot. Cingular is even worse, though.

It worked quite well for me when I was in Victoria, BC and in the San
Juan islands of Washington State in May 2005.

Surprised how well I could pick up a signal while on the ferry between
Port Angeles and Victoria, as well as from Victoria (Sidney, BC
    actually) and Anacortes, WA.

I'm up on H St. Road. I get no reliable service anywhere within a 5
miles of my place on the U.S. side. If I drive to Lynden and sit in
the Safeway parking lot with my window down and the phone angled just
the right way, I can usually make a call.

The visual image of you actually doing this is both vivid and
hysterical. Thanks (Brings back memories of my days with Cingular when I
would have to wait in the pizzeria parking lot down the road if I was
    expecting a business call.)

My Dad goes way up into Canada, we are in Tacoma. When he goes to TOWN
he always catches a signal but when he is at where ever he is no signal
though these people have no electricity either ). Should work

The laughs would come easier if we weren't paying for this service as
    though it actually worked.

That's how I felt when I was on the other carrier. I truly do empathize.

As I said, I had similar problems with Cingular. Cingular did, after a
period of time, confirm that there was a problem with reception in my
area. That said, they had no intention of fixing it any time soon.

Recently a friend with Cingular went to take a business call on his
phone from my home. It kept ringing but he couldn't hear the caller. He
ended up having to drive several blocks away to get the call. Oh, and he
had to get of out the car and walk around till he found a decent spot.

Still, I won't hammer Cingular. There are places where they work better
than Verizon and there are places where the opposite is true.

Yeah, Cingular is worse than Verizon, but neither is very good in the
parts of western Washington where I have residences... San Juan County
    and Whatcom County.

The treehuggers make the problem worse because they complain about
every new tower as though it's a nuclear power plant.

You get tree huggers - we get N.I.M.B.Y. advocates.
