Could you please take a look at my previous post [reprinted below]? I'd
be interested in your comments:

Hi,
I'm considering the Motorola Q. Here's my info:
- I will be using the phone in downtown Chicago and in San Diego.
- I need to have email pushed to me as it arrives. I need to be able to
send quick responses, but I don't need to be able to read or send binary
attachments. I don't use Exchange. I use Outlook and a POP3 account. As new
emails arrive, I'd like them to be pushed out to my phone automatically. I
don't mind leaving the Outlook application open on my machine if this is
neccessary.
- I'd like my Calendar, Contacts, and Notes to be pushed to my phone.
- I need to be able to go for a full workday (8-10 hrs) without
recharging.
- I'm a movie fiend. The ability to check movie times in Chicago and San
Diego is very important. With my existing Verizon phone, I use a GetItNow
movie finder applet for this purpose. GetItNow isn't available on the 'Q.'
Is there some other Q-based applet that accomplishes the same purpose?
Thanks,
Johnny | | | |

I had the Treo 700W, I like it but the only problem I had with it is using
BT to make a call. The Q does...I'm still learning everything about this
phone so I hope this helps alittle.

Email can be setup automatically to arrive when you setup your email
account. It's on of the last steps you do before you finish the setup.

Active sync can do this, I use 4.2.

#5 | | Guest | There's no touch screen. Had to get use to that. But, I not having any
problems without one.
If you get one I suggest getting a screen protector because the screen gets
messy fast (finger prints).

Humm... I have a number of PPC programs that would be rendered
somewhat unusable without a stylus and touch screen.
I see this as a big drawback for this unit.

Well those programs would be useless anyways. The Q uses Windows Mobile for
Smartphones OS, while an actual touchscreen PDA use Windows Mobile OS. They
are both different and do not use the same programs anyways. The programs
for smartphones are designed with no touchscreen in mind. Basically, the Q
is a smartphone, not a PDA for all intents and purposes.

Go to any Verizon kiosk that has a Q.....
Call the cellphone in your pocket from the Q on display so you can steal
its telephone number and count the rings you hear on the Q before your
phone starts ringing...just for reference.
Hang up.
Now, with the Q hung up but running, call the number you stole and see
how many rings it takes the Q to start beeping....
I'd be very interested to see what your ring count is from various
carriers, including Verizon, before that Q starts ringing. Please post
as a response here.
I reported it took 3 rings from Alltel before the Q on display started
ringing last week on this newsgroup....and, of course, got lambasted by
the company shills that there was something wrong with Alltel or Verizon
on that day.
Yesterday, again at the Verizon kiosk in Circuit City, I did the call,
again, with the same results.....from both MY phone on Alltel AND the
Verizon salespersons own phone on Verizon.
I'm just the reporter on this observation. Don't slam me for reporting
it. I'd like you to try it because I think it's very important if they
all do this. My contacts would hang up if you waited for the second ring
to answer it, because they would have sat through FIVE rings by that time
and thought you were dead.
They only had one Q to try. If I pass by another Verizon box I'll try a
different phone. Conversely, it rang my phone on Alltel FROM the Q phone
on the FIRST ring in its earphone. I wonder if we aren't seeing the
phone look for some data pattern to determine if this is a data or phone
call coming in....??? It wouldn't be the first time.

When you come up to the checkout, ask someone if they saw
the INS agents carrying off 3 people from the store...
See how many illegals you can get to abandon their carts...
moving YOU up in line....(c; | | | |

#9 | | Guest | Not "lambasted" - such a drama queen....
I also experimented on multiple phones to try to duplicate this.
I could not. So, I simple proposed that there may be other factors.
I stick by that proposal and I again recommend that any reader take
anything Larry posts here with a VERY BIG grain of salt...
