Can't copy to microSD Transflash card

I have a Win XP Pro computer with all the latest updates, plus with the
V Cast music essentials kit installed. Also have a 1 gig microSD card
for the VX8300 with holder.

I also have MP3 enabled on the VX8300.

Problem is: On this Win XP machine it will not let me copy MP3 files
to the microSD card. Keep getting not allowed or can't find path
errors.

However.... if I move over to another computer, a Win 2000 pro machine,
I can copy MP3 to the microSD card with no problems, and the VX8300
plays the MP3s with no problems.

I copy files to SD cards for other applications (photos etc) with no
problem... it just will not allow me to copy to the VX8300 card.

Anyone have this problem or know what it may be?

Will it let you copy .wma files? Maybe it'll let you do it that way.

Bet you don't have the VCAST essentials software installed on the other
computer.... Try removing the vcast software and see if it works....

Quite frankly this question was a little perplexing to me. when I purchased
a sdmicro card and after it was formatted to the phone it installed folders
for music and photos etc. I then tried to upload the MP3's to the card. It
uploaded the music however when you try and use the music as an MP3 it will
come up with an error. However from this group it was noted you must unlock
the function for MP3's before you can actually play them. I did note that in
the directions with the music essentials kit or any other program it must be
in Windows Media Format for the device to actually play them.

I had not as of this writing tried the access to the cell via the zero's
etc. to be able to play them after the function is enabled.

I cannot hazard a guess why one computer over another can upload them. I
have had no difficulty in uploading music files but the ability to actually
play one format over another.

The most prominent difference between XP and W2K is XP's built-in firewall. It
may be blocking a port you need to have open. Make sure you have the firewall
turned off. If that makes it work, you can worry later about which ports you
need to open up.

Well, I turned off the WinXP firewall but that didn't seem to make any
difference.

Peter Pan seemed to think it was the Vcast Music Essentials program
that I have installed that is causing the problem. I suspected that
also, but I thought I had the program unloaded, and the problem still
existed. Don't really want to uninstall it because I do use it to
transfer other files (WMA).

When trying again tonite, I found that a file would be copied to the
microSD using the WinXP machine but I still got the error message and
the XP file manager sorta crashed... Also, the VX8300 would not play
it. Additionally, I could not use the WinXP computer to delete what
was copied to the microSD ..... jeeeez. I had to take it over the the
Win2000 machine to delete it.

I copied some MP3 to the microSD using the Win2000 machine and they
play AOK. So I still have a WinXP problem.. what ever it is.

Just out of curiosity, what sort of SD card reader are you using? I had a
somewhat similar prob but between two notebooks (both with XP), but one had
a built in reader and the other an el cheapo plug into the usb port type..
Had file errors that sometimes caused pix/movies/mp3's/text file to become
"glichy" (dropouts/unreadable/odd characters in the filename/etc)..
Reformatted on the worst one (the el cheapo $4 plug into a usb port one from
a flea market), and things worked fine from then on... Just for yucks, you
may want to just reformat the card on the problem machine, and see if it
works on all after that...

IP Ports have nothing to do with accessing memory cards. They are used for
IP communications.

Music essentials shouldn't cause a problem either because I don't think it
has anything to do with disk reading and writing. Music essentials is for
transferring music over the USB with Media Player. What you are trying to
do is transfer files to what the computer believes is an removable disk.

I think the XP machine doesn't like your reader and or the card. As I write
this my built in reader on my HP doesn't like my card. I'm going to try
another external reader tomorrow.
