While I am sure there is truth to what you've written, there are other
choices besides having consumers exposed to the constant UHF/microwave
radiation from a nearby cell and not having good coverage.
I noticed that as of late, we have coverage in our NYC metro area tunnels,
something which didn't exist a couple of years ago. Coverage has also
improved in the canyons of Manhattan, where large buildings used to block
users from the cells.
I believe, and I am open to correction if I'm wrong please, that these feats
are accomplished through something referred to as "wireless antennas",
devices which radiate a small fraction of the power of a full-blown cell.
The data from these is then transferred to an actual cell which can be
located in an acceptable location.
I don't think its a matter of choosing between having your brains fried or
having poor coverage. It's a matter of cost to the service providers.
