Well I see the reviews are coming in now that the Verizon Voyager is
in the hands of users. The GIST is that the VZ Voyager will be a
painful gift to the family member who really yearned for a slick
iPhone.
BTW AT&T is now allowing iPhone users who really don't want to use or
pay for their slow data network to drop
EDGE data and cut their iPhone
bill by $20 a month. It is one of those features you can add or drop
once a month as your needs change.
If you are using the free WiFi at McDonalds and other places than that
is a viable choice for the person who only occasionally surfs the
internet while away from the work place or home. That drops your
iPhone bill to only forty dollars plus taxes and you still can surf
the net using WiFi.
No one at either of these places uses a cell phone network to surf the
internet since broadband and WiFi is light years faster if your
portable phone has WiFi built into it.
Another unfortunate feature of the VZ Voyager is that it can not use
WiFi as the Voyager is stuck on the slower Verizon
3G data networks
for surfing the web even at home or work. BTW my personal VZ
experience with VZ LG VX phones is that
EVDO is a poor performer in
hilly terrain or among many trees around Atlanta GA and a real battery
killer if you use
3G very much.
Another problem I suspect LG hasn't solved is that on their internal
VX
QWERTY keyboards the paint on the keys wears off fairly fast. My
last of a half dozen VZ LGs is only three months old and alreadyon it
the lettering is fading from some of the keys. That sucks IMHO when
you have to keep these phones for two years or else sell them to some
other sucker. The fading paint makes that more difficult to do.

Overall rating: 3 (out of 5)
I got it today and have been playing with it. It is definitely NOT a
iphone killer. The push to unlock button on the front is very annoying
but maybe there is a way to shut it off. My biggest gripes and
scrolling though the contact list just works poorly. And the side
button does not move the contact list. Either the phone doesn't
respond to my finger movement or it selects one when I just wanted to
scroll. Maybe the firmware will be improved but my friends iphone
works 1000% better. Also moving around on a browser page is very
difficult. This is really a warmed over envy. It seems that LG rushed
this together when Verizon pushed them to do something like the
iphone. LG is a great phone manufacturer so I would think that in 6-12
months they will really have a iphone killer but then again apple is
not standing still. Also the plastic holster does not hold the phone
firmly as it can fall out very easily. And the leather pouch which
holds the phone horizontally is nice but you would never feel the
vibrations in that mode. I would say a nice try but no cigar. I will
return it in a few days and go back to my 8300.

Positives:
- Device looks good, and it's a nice size considering it has a full-
keyboard(consider the style of the Sidekicks). Some people are
complaining about the size, and even comparing it to the razor, pearl,
and other small phones, which I think is pretty ridiculous,
considering this phone is supposed to be larger for the large touch
screen, and can't be as slim as the Iphone because it has a full
qwerty keyboard. However, some people will not like it regardless. The
size is relative to the large touchscreen and fold out keyboard, so
some will like it, some will hate it. The camera is pretty good and
has excellent features. The keyboard has well-spaced buttons, and it
very easy to type with for me. The menus/UI is much improved on this
phone, and looks good. Call quality has been great so far, as well as
the TV service. VZ Navigator works and looks great and so does the
Vcast Tv(mediaflo)
Semi-positives/Negatives:
- It's great that the browser displays html pages pretty well, but it
needs to have an easier method of navigating, and it would be better
to have flash on it(but flash isn't a huge problem). The browser is
much faster using the Optimized version. The touchscreen is intuitive
and works great, until you need to scroll up or down on a particular
screen, ex. contacts. It is actually kind of difficult to scroll up
and down without mistakenly clicking the wrong item. However, I do
like the ease of using the touch screen to navigate, and like the
haptic feedback as well. The screens are nice and beautiful.
Overall, I like this device, but everyone needs to understand, that
this is not an Iphone killer, it's an iphone competitor and really
doesn't have the wow-factor that the Iphone has, but it has more
features that I want, such as,
3G connectivity(tethering), GPS
Navigation(not just maps), Mediaflo TV,
mms, more bluetooth profiles,
full
qwerty keyboard, expandable memory, and removable battery. I am
very pleased with mine so far.

Bottom line if you want an iPhone type phone but must stay on the
Veriaon network the Voyager probably isn't the slick phone you want.
