Just received from the 3Gstore a USB720
EVDO modem and Kyocera KR-1
router to provide me with Internet connectivity out here in the
boonies where I moved from the big city. $59.99 per month, two-year
contract.
I was using a PC4570 (or something like that) wireless card in my
laptop and connectivity was shaky -- could not connect about 40
percent of the time.
The USB720 and KR-1 were plug and play -- cabled everything up to my
desktop computer, plugged in the power -- green LEDs lighted, status
LED showed orange, everything blinked a couple of times, status LED
turned green, and I was connected.
Ran three speed tests -- download speed was 1.1 - 1.3 MB, upload was
580 - 780 KB.
The router has configuration software that lets me view signal
strength -- with the desktop external antenna connected to the USB720,
I get 9-10 of 10 bars.
The KR-1 wireless set up flawlessly and my laptop connects with max
signal strength on the second floor, far end of a 3.500 sq ft house.
Life is good so far -- let's see what happens when a storm hits.
