I realize I never got an answer to my problem, but eventually, with the help
of BB Support, I got it going myself. I was surprised to find out that BB's
tech support was clueless that this problem existed though I found several
mentions of it in NGs.
For those of you who may run into the problem allow me to make this
suggestion: this is one of those rare cases where it truly pays to shut down
every program you may have running on your computer before you attempt to
install BB Desktop Manager. Make sure you shut down anti-virus software and
firewalls.
If you had tried an install and you didn't get Media Manager to install, use
BB's uninstall program to wipe it all clean before trying again.
Anyway, it all works now for me. Good luck to those of you who move to BBs
and want Media Manager to work. I do love the Pearl however, so there are
no complaints here.
