Blackberry Pearl from verizon

I got an offer from Verizon for a Blackberry Pearl, for
like $99 for the unit and 29.99 a month for unlimited internet,
in addition to a call package

I need Internet access to check selling prices on ebay during sales and
auctions,
to avoid overpaying, we sell 800-900 things a month, I don't want to carry
a laptop

My wife just wants the features and especially the navigator,

is this a deal or not ?

Thanks

I dunno. How much are you asking for your wife? Do you take trades?

Read the contract VERY CAREFULLY!!!!!!! VZW is not a charity! They
expect to get their money out of you somehow!!!

You mean if you weren't able to check,
you'd overpay?

Wow! Are you ever confused about how bidding works.

Re: Blackberry Pearl from verizon

Isn't that view a little narrow?

I use eBay quite often to get a "price frame" for items before I buy/sell
them.

I've bought and sold around 20 Verizon phones on eBay, but I wouldn't have a
clue what they go for TODAY. eBay provides me with a frame of reference.

I think it's one step any wise buyer (or seller) would take, along with
checking the major shopping bots. Shopping like this has probably saved me
thousands of dollars over the years.

I sell things, I don't want to overpay at an antique auction or estate sale,
for instance

The other posters clearly have a far better sense of humor than I have, so
I'll try to answer your question straight up.

I am an owner of both a Vz Pearl and Curve, so I speak from a little
experience. That said, I had been paying $45/month for the data service.
Verizon's new position is to give non-business users a break and, to my
knowledge, they only recently introduced the $30 unlimited data plan. So, I
would consider that to be a big break for you and a good opportunity. I just
switched, thanks to the astuteness of one Verizon rep I happened to get when
I bought the Curve. The others didn't know about the $30 plan and would have
kept me on the $45 plan.

Is the Pearl worth $99? I think it's worth a lot more. But value is always
in the eyes of the user, isn't it? The Pearl does most things any PDA I
ever had does, plus it's a very good phone. I paid about $500 for a Dell
Axim when it was new, so the Pearl seems like a bargain at $99.

I'm sure you understand that you are committing to a 2-year contract for
that $99 price. But, you can cancel the contract at anytime. If you do,
you'll be charged a $175 cancellation fee, which is reduced by $5 for each
month you used the contract. You can probably get over $200 for a used
Pearl on eBay if you keep it in good condition. So, how can you go wrong
with this deal???

For the final caveat, allow me to say that I loved the Pearl. But I
sometimes ran into trouble with the Suretype system. It is a great system
and generally works well, but unless you practice a lot, you may have
trouble typing non-conventional words. That's why I'm trying out the Curve
(full keyboard). I think you can get the Curve for possibly $149 and the
same data deal. Hope this helped and good luck.

Re: Blackberry Pearl from verizon

Just to add a little more, the difference between the $30 and $45 dollar plans--$30 is BIS, personal email and Web access. There is no wireless syncing of PIM data. The $45 is a BES plan, typically for corporate applications where you can sync PIM data. The Pearl is a great device. I agree with Carl on the SureType. It usually works great, but sometimes I get a little frustrated trying to type something that's not a word.

Tell the truth: the only reason you know the word "snow" is because you have
"snow birds" where you live, right? :-)

LOL

My friend, who moved from NY to Florida, keeps a "Dunkin Donuts" ice scraper
on his boat, to remind him why he moved.

"Ice", by the way, is the stuff in your Dewars on-the-rocks.

When entrepreneur and long-time radio talk show host Bruce Williams is
asked why he moved from New Jersey to Florida, he says "because no one has
ever sprained their back shoveling sunshine..."

We have to explain to New Yawkers that the Slushies for sale in the
machine in 7/11 is not what they're used to and just colored red.
