I used to be able to tether my old motorala phone since 2003. Then
this year a car ran over it and it broke. So I got a really cheap
Samsung phone and got the USB driver. I believe the modem is setup
correctly but whenever I dial that 777 number, it will not connect.
From what I read, verizon now disable to new phone for tethering? My
options are:
1) Can I buy my older Motorola phone from ebay and have verizon
activate it?
2) If not, is it possible to turn tethering on in my Samsung phone? I
read this somewhere:
To tether a device the data plan must equal $60...meaning...
if you have no data plan then tethering is $60
if you have the $30 data plan then its $30
if you have the $45 data plan then its $15

Re: How much to tether my laptop to phone?
You should never have to dial any 777 number.
I do know that when connecting, your phone will automatically dial like #777.
First, you need to make sure all drivers are properly installed, then download the VZAccess manager at VZAccess Manager.
Then use that...when downloaded, click it and follow prompts.
Also, you are correct about the pricing for the tethering service.

You are right about the prices.
What error message do you get when you make the attempt to dial?
What plan do you have? (i.e. Nationwide/Americas Choice?)

Just for reference:
Tethering to a smartphone on Alltel - $10/mo
Tethering to a BT-enabled sellphone on Alltel - $25/mo
700 mins Regional plan - $39.95, free N/W, free LD/voicemail/usual toys
EVDO with same speed as VZW but works better in the boonies, too.
All this will end when the bastards at Verizon suck up Alltel.....dammit.
Might work for 2 years if you can churn to Alltel BEFORE the merger. They
promise to NOT screw us if we have a contract.
I'm hoping WiMAX will be here before my contract ends....making cellular a
moot "old" system to dump.
