This new plan will still support rollover of the minutes remaining on the
phone each renew period just like TracFone(s) do currently. The airtime
cards will come in following demoninations (retail):
$30 for 300 minutes and up to 30 days of service
$60 for 600 minutes and up to 60 days of service
$180 for 1,800 minutes and up to 6 months of service
$300 for 3000 minutes and up to 1 year of service
10 cents a minute alright!
The main & only network Net10wireles phones will use is Cingular GSM.
Net10wireless offers several new GSM models, but the one that most interests
me is the Motorola v171 color flip phone that supports GPRS, chat, and
mobile internet.
It will be interesting to see if those functions are not disabled and will
work on the v171?
All the models will support text messaging which will be 5 cents per message
(sending & receiving).

This is cool. I really do think it's something they needed to do, with Virgin
offering 10c per minute, and (I believe) also VZW and some other carriers.
> The main & only network Net10wireles phones will use is Cingular GSM.
And I bet this is a big reason *why* they can offer 10c per minute. By
committing to Cingular, they probably got a much better deal on airtime than
they would have otherwise.
But it has another benefit too - Tracfone has typically used different carriers
in different areas, and for example, if you had a CDMA Tracfone that ran on
Verizon's network, you couldn't go to a Tracfone market that used AT&T or
Cingular and get a digital connection (if you could get one at all). Sticking
with one carrier means NET10 phones will work no matter which Tracfone market
you're in.

I bought the v171 and it DOES have chat but no mobile internet that I've seen so far. The manual says in the Main Menu it has "Browser" but mine does not. I bought mine at Walmart for $100 and I saw one on Ebay for $70. I also bought the 300 minute card. I activated my phone and received a text message from Net 10 welcoming me and it deducted half a unit. When I was activating it, it said that I would receive a FREE text message so I called them about it. They compensated me with 10 minutes and another month of service!!! So far, I'm REALLY liking this service!!! The back of the box also says that it has downloadable ringtones (which I've yet to find) and a composer (which I've YET to locate!!). If anyone knows how to get to the composer, let me know!!!

I have a Nokia 1100 (GSM) TracFone that uses the same carrier as the
Net10Wireless Nokia 1100 (GSM), namely the Cingular network.
The only difference in the two Nokia(s) is the way airtime minutes and units
are accounted for inside each phone when calls are made. With all
TracFone(s) and all Net10Wireless models, airtime processing is
accomplished inside the phone, and not on the network side of things. This
feature is unique to TracFone and Net10Wireless, since both are the same
company anyway.
I have not experienced any lack of service or lack of coverage problems with
the Cingular network, although I know coverage gaps still exist with
Cingular's GSM network. I would not use the Nokia 1100 if I were planning
to go hiking on the Appalachian Trail, for example. Cingular GSM coverage is
dismal in the western North and South Carolina mountains. Cingular is
building up their GSM network, and within a year or two, I hope these minor
coverage gaps will disappear.
As for TracFone customer service, I think its good. Though it helps to
have a pretty good idea of the answer to your question in advance of your
calls to customer service. If you only know enough about your cellphone to
turn it on and off, to place and receive calls, and are clueless about
cellphone technologies in general, calls to customer service can sometimes
be a scary proposition. Then you have to trust that you get the right
answer from customer service, which is not always the case the first call.
Again, if you know what your problem is, or have a pretty good idea when you
call, then you should have no problems with customer service.
Hope this helps!

Yes and No. 1100 works great. I live in the Sticks but lucky enough to have new tower close by. Have full bars at home, metro areas and major highways.I had a problem at first in recieving inComing calls when I was out of my home area code but after several calls to Customer Serv. and online Cust. Serv. I finally got prob fixed. Loading new minutes was a breeze. Can load from cell phone. I've had phone and service for about a month and except for one above problem, I love it. Service is suppose to work off Cingular, T-Moble and others. Have had no problem with service/signal where I'm sure I should get service/signal. Hope this helps!

This is probably a stupid question......so please bare with me...if Net10 runs on a Cinular GSM(whatever that is) is it possible to download ringtones listing cingular as a carrier for a Net10 phone.
Re: TracFone (Net10wireless) Offers New 10 cents per minute Plan
All you have to do is text message your email address from your phone,
then check your email, you will see your number
###-###-####@ whatever-network-its-really-on.com
Trackfone will run on any network they can find, they rent networks,
and do not have their own.
How do I know???
I write text messages, and make money for text content, and I can see
what network the text is recieved by.
Now, for my new question.
I wonder what all the other cellular companys are going to do to
lower their prices to compete with NET 10?
I am with Cingular, and with a 10 cent a minute rate all the time,
with NET 10, I am almost tempted to go to NET 10 prepaid except do they
have mobile internet?
Or maybe I will wait, and see what Cingular does after they loose a
few customers to NET 10.
I know a few people paying by contract ready to get prepaid.
I think it will be fun to watch the anxiety of cellphone companys
battling for customers favor.
Well everybody text message your email, thats the way to find out
what network your NET 10 track phone is on.

Well, gee whiz, if you work in the industry you should know that while
TracFone "classic" runs on several networks, Net10 only runs on Cingular.
And... "make money for text content"? Are you one of the jerks that cost me
money spamming my cell phone a couple years ago?
> Well everybody text message your email, thats the way to find out

Wrong, Einstein. That works on TracFone's original service, but since Net10
uses Cingular EXCLUSIVELY, there's no point to doing it if you use Net10.
Re: TracFone (Net10wireless) Offers New 10 cents per minute Plan
If you want a year of net-10 minutes, you have to buy $300 of them.
If you want to buy a year's worth of T-mobile prepaid minutes, you
only have to buy $100 of them. Same price per minute.
Will Net-10 port your number?
Will Net-10 let you choose your caller-id name that shows up on
landline phones?
T-mobile will do both.
You can't call customer service on a net-10 phone without using up
your minutes. You can on T-mobile.
You get limited T-mobile internet with prepaid, none on net-10
You can buy lots of used GSM phones to use with T-mobile, not so for
net-10. You're stuck with the specially-programmed phone made
specially for them.
I see only 2 reasons to go with net-10
1. You want the $.10/minute but want to pay moth-by-month. A good
deal if you can't come up with the $100 for a year's worth of minutes.
2. You want Cingular coverage instead of T-mobile. In some areas
their coverage may be better.
No, I don't think the non-prepaid plans are suffering much from
net-10. There have been 10 cents/minute prepaid plans for quite
awhile now, and they don't seem to be taking over.
Re: TracFone (Net10wireless) Offers New 10 cents per minute Plan
No, I am not one of the jerks, you have to sign up to get my text
messages.
And, I just started this business a year ago.
Calm down man, don't have a heart attack, its just a communication
device, ok. Gee wiz..

Well, you didn't address my other point. If you are in the industry, which
you claim to be, you should know Net10 only uses Cingular. It's even been
posted in this newsgroup before.

When did T-Mobile prepaid start letting you choose the name on your caller
id?
