Are there any free websites out there that allow you to send
an email to someone as a text message, especially for those whose
phones don't have an email address?

there is at sprintpcs if you have an account with sprint mobile of
course. simply go to the website www.sprintpcs.com and log in your
online account by using your mobile number and account password. on
your homepage, click on the link my "my online tolls" then click on
"text messaging" VOILA!!!
