Can't stand flip phones...what is the best "regular" cell phone...no
picture phone, no active gps/mapping. Do use my phone as a modem with
both my laptop and my pocket pc. My carrier is Verizon and I am
located in the far north west part of Washington State.
Have been happy with Motorola and Kyocera/Qualcomm phones in the
    past...currently using a Moto 120e.

All Verizon Wireless phones now sold contain aGPS. This is how VZW has
chosen to comply with a federal mandate for locating phones making 911
calls within a specified precision. aGPS is a form of GPS where the
phone and the tower together do the location, so that it will work
indoors and other places where standalone GPS won't work. Other
providers use other techniques to satisfy the mandate.

    Thanks for replying...
I'm aware of the aGPS feature...I just don't want an active mapping
    GPS feature.

Minimum bells and whistles for me as long as I can use it to connect
    my laptop and Pocket PC.

Dunno from "best", but something that's always attracted me to Nokia phones is
Nokia's effort to maintain powersource compatability between phones.

For the longest time - while all our phones were TDMA, I could swap any battery
    into any phone.

Now we've gone to GSM, but I can still use power supplies from the old TDMA
phones on the new Nokias. May sound trivial, but there's a certain
convenience factor in having power supplies here, there, and everywhere -
    including the cars.
