You don't "get converted" (at least not in the
GSM sense) "to Cingular". ATT
and Cingular are now covering different areas, so if you went out of your
area under which you normally see "ATT WIRELESS" on your phone into an area
that Cingular covers, you'll see "Cingular Wireless" on your phone. When
your phone boots up, you'll probably see an ATT screen, but the phone will
jump to whatever tower has the stronger signal (either Cingular or ATT).
You can purchase an unlocked Motorola
GSM phone and put your
SIM chip from
your ATT phone in it and it should work perfectly well.
