Unlocking a Panasonic A100 cell phone?

Hello Experts :-)

I bought this Panasonic A100 phone, while in Spain earlier this year, which
has a Telefonica Movistar SIM chip. I tried to buy other SIM chips - for
Portugal and USA - to use in the phone outside Spain but am told that I
can't use another SIM card until the phone is unlocked. I asked Panasonic
about unlocking and they referred me to Telefonica. I asked them how to
unlock it but I have had no response.

My guess is that there is a way to reset or unlock it, even without knowing
the existing code.

Help appreciated.

After I posted the message I started to refine my searches a bit and finally
used "unlock panasonic " +A100 and came up with a bundle of hits. Are they
all honest sites? I dislike offering my credit card number to an unknown
site, and there are so many that it would take a while to pick the best
deal. Any experiences and recommendations?
