GPRS code schemes

I included the following question with a bunch of others in a recent
post but nobody could answer it. So I'll take another crack at it. Here
it is.

How does one determine what code scheme (CS-1, 2, 3 or 4) a GPRS device
is using for communication between it and the service provider tower?
