Looking at their coverage map Florida looks pretty good, but it's not like
T-Mobile's map that shows signal strenth rigt to your neighborhood. You
might try their minimum plan first and see how it works for your location.

I looked at the T-Mobile map for Gainesville and it looks pretty well
covered, If you go to this url you can put in your address and see.

    See http://prepaiduswireless.com

But the short answer is that for now, Beyond Wireless is your best
    choice for low usage.

    http://gobeyondwireless.com/

Not sure where you are. I know that you can get Gainseville prefixes.

    Here is the prefix list:

A 35 minute card is $5. There are no minimums in terms of buying more
time. You must make a call every 60 days to keep your number. You can
get a free refurbished phone, or use your own TDMA phone that was
previously activated on AT&T TDMA (not Cingular TDMA).

Eventually you're going to have to switch to a CDMA or GSM carrier, but
you probably have about two years until that happens, and by then
Beyondwireless will have GSM service (though probably at a higher
    per-minute rate).

I have two Beyond Wireless phones activated with Gainesville numbers, so
yes Gainseville is covered. Go Gators! I am in California, but got
    Gainesville numbers.

So I guess then the way I read it, if I have a ATT TDMA phone that was
activated with JusTalk which quit working the end of September, I
could just call BeyondWireless and get it activated with them.
Like you I would have a Florida number probably Leesburg because we'll
be down there in about 3 weeks. But I'm not a Gator fan!

Yes, you can use an AT&T TDMA phone. For some reason, Beyond Wireless
tends to prefer Nokia phones, but I've activated two Motorola V60T
    phones with them as well.

They give you some minutes when you activate. They'll ask you what area
code and city you want for your phone. Doesn't really matter for
outgoing calls, but for incoming, I guess you want a number that's good
for local landlines to call you on.

Ok thanks, that was almost to easy. All activated with 35 minutes and
hasn't cost me anything yet. Will be interesting now to see if
Ann Arbor is in the On Network area. I know Detroit is and we are 45
miles west of there so we'll see.

Tracfone is a joke....check out their web page for coverage in your
    area..here today and gone tomorrow.

Their help on line sucks...I suspect it is a bot.

    Look around before going Tracfone.

    JoshIII responds:
What'd you expect 100 miles from nearest Interstate.

Maybe there is *NO* cellphone coverage where you are, other than a weak
    analog signal.

Its not fair to include TDMA networks in your TracFone debate either,
because TDMA is dying everywhere, every company, every plan.

Its not fair to blame TracFone on network problems in general. That is
probably what you experienced. Requirements to change networks by the
network's owner I consider a "network problem". From the users perspective,
it most certainly is a problem to be reconned with.

TDMA and Analog are the last of dinosaurs in the cellphone industry.

Hey its not my idea, I'm just the messenger. I like diversity myself, but
the cellphone industry does't see it that way.

Someday, CDMA and GSM will be obsolete. Probably within 10 years.

No Josh...you're not the messenger....if anyone would review your past
posts they will see at the least you are an opportunist and at the most
    a company shrill.

And for your information, I live in a major metro area where Tracfone
has been losing access to the networks it USED to have. Of course that
little detail is left up to the user to figure out. Is Tracfone on the
    way out?

As for "a problem to be reconned with", well this customer just uses a
Tracfone competitor...sure seems to have fixed the problem.

    Re: Best PerPaid Plan?

    konflikt,

For services like Beyond, they can only activate an AT&T phone. A TDMA
phone from any other carrier won't work.
