Hello,
Does anyone have the schedule for when the different Cingular/ATT markets
are phasing out TDMA?
Please let me know or where to find that information.
Thanks,
Mayur.

What I heard is that the end of TDMA will be coincident with turning off
of AMPS. Otherwise the phones from Beyond Wireless and CallPlus would
still be able to work with AMPS.
California is busy getting ready to convert their AMPS call boxes to 800
Mhz CDMA.

Verizon, AIUI, has the CalTrans call box contract, so Cingular's switch
wouldn't have any effect unless CalTrans awards Cingular the contract after
the current one expires.

Sorry, I shouldn't have combined those two AMPS statements in one post.
Yes, Verizon does the call box communications for CalTrans. Besides
switching to CDMA, they're removing a lot of the call boxes as well,
since usage is so low now.

Re: When is TDMA being phased out?
Voice call on a wide band CDMA is not a good idea. Few people will use the
tiny key to send high price message over the phone. The market plan on WCDMA
for Cingular may not make money.

According to Pharos, Locus/Callplus is shutting down TDMA service on or
before March 30 this year. I have 400 minutes saved up with no use for them
unless the Auto Club is as incompetent as it was last time.

I'm looking for reliable cheap/minimalist service; who has the best SoCal
coverage?

Re: When is TDMA being phased out?
Page Plus has the best coverage... (Verizon's)
T-Mobile has the best rate (.10 w/Gold Rewards)
SpeakOut has the longest expiration at the lowest yearly cost ($25/365 days)
