    WONDERFUL idea!!!!

One can only hope it will catch on and spread to restaurants, railroad cars, and
    airplanes.

If people would only be polite and respect other people there would be
    no need for this.

The other day I was in an airport and some jerk was talking on his
cell phone using a head set so everybody around had to listed to his
meaningless conversation. Personally I think there should be blocking
in public places and it should be a sledge hammer applied to the
    offenders phone<GRIN>

Many independent restaurants and theaters already do blocking, but they
don't publicize it, because it's illegal in the U.S..

I understand the need for emergency contacts, so...

How about some way to block phone calls, themselves, but allow the
you-have-a-phone-call alert to pass (vibrate only, of course)?

Wanna talk? You'll have to go outside.

Passive blocking is not illegal, but requires some planning.

There always have been and always will be wise-ass kids. Used to be one
myself, but I just can't get it up anymore.... For my money, they could do us
all a service by commenting loudly on the guy's conversation - like "Yeah, your
right on that one, George - you tell Mary she's dead wrong." My expectation
would be that the guy's voice level would fall to a whisper almost immediately.

    Per "http://www.newhousenews.com/archive/story1a092200.html"
"Hubgiant of Taipei, Taiwan, sells its WAC1000 personal jammer, which has an
operating radius of up to 30 feet, for $169. And Uptron of Lucknow, India,
offers a full range of jammers with coverage ranging from 20 feet to over one
    mile."

20-30 feet sounds like a nice distance.... -)

I think that there should be blocking in all public places especially
theatres and restaurants. They should all install cell phone jammers. It
really pisses me off when I am trying to have an intimate dinner with my
wife and some a-hole is yacking on his cell phone at a voice level of 90+
decibels! The worst thing is that the restaurant owners tolerate it. Next
time, I will get up and walk out of the restaurant and tell them why I am
    leaving without paying the bill.

I would like to buy one of the personal jammers to carry with me to theatres
and restaurants. I would need to jam both 800 and 1900 MHz. Where can I get
    one?

Cellular has been blocked in Princeton NJ for years!

Glad to see the facts finally coming out. No business admits they are
doing it, but jamming is common practice around here (high
concentration of Yuppies from the "Me Generation")

Note to the techies: If your phone has -90dbm to -30dbm receive
signal, yet your Ec/Io is -10 or worse, your phone is being jammed.

It doesn't matter to me! I asked where to buy one. Maybe mail-order on the
    internet from another country?

If this is actually the case, its a good thing that Public Safety is on
    UHF
because if they were on 800 MHz the jammers wouldn't be around very
    long.
