I know it's not allowed to have two phones on one phone number. But is
it permissible to have two numbers on one phone? This would of course be
the easiest way to untether a landline phone (i.e. drop the phone and
keep the number.) If this is possible, can it be set up so that something
indicates which of the two numbers is being called? I'm on Verizon if
    that makes a difference.

my vote for President will be a write-in for Jiang Zemin.

Sorry I can't answer for the USA.

But in the UK, you can have two or more phones on one number. Also you can
have a 'Line 2' number thereby giving you two numbers on one phone, so both
are possible, whether these services are available in the USA I'm afraid I
    don't know.

If it's a dual-NAM phone, *maybe* - if Verizon's computers allow more than
one phone number to have the same ESN.

If you have 2 phones and one of the phones permits 'call forwarding' you can
have those calls transfered to the second phone.

    Steve,
You, as a former VZW user should know the answer to that. :-)

AFAIK, VZW will allow two numbers on one ESN.
My current VX8100 has dual NAM capability.

This is preliminary research as I consider whether or not to drop my
landline service and port the number to a cell phone.
