Samsung D600 standby

Hi

I recently upgraded from a D500 to the D600. Having no problems at the
moment except for one nigly thing I hope you can help me with. With
the D500, when you closed the slider and the screen went into its
standby mode, the screen went black and displayed the time and date.

With the D600 (well mine anyway) the screen just seems to turn itself
off and goes completely black. However, if i press and hold in the
volume control button, the screen lights up with the time and date like
the D500.

Does anyone know how I can get the D600 to display the standby time and
date without the screen going completely black.

The reason I am asking is that if I have any txts, with this blacked
out screen there is no envelope symbol displayed and its not until I
open the slider that I notice if I have a txt or a missed call..
