I have been using the Verizon Pre-paid service called Free-up for over 3 years
now. When I signed up I din't have a credit card, but now I do, and these
pre-paid minutes are just TOO Expensive.

I want a REGULAR cel phone service where I pay $xx.xx a month and get xxxx
minutes, or unlimited calling a month.

I already called Verizon and for me to switch to one of their "regular" plans, I
would have to get a new number. I am unemployed and I've sent out numerous
resumes and applications with my current number. Changing numbers IS NOT AN
    OPTION.

If I can switch from Verizons pre-paid service to another providers 'regular'
service AND KEEP My Same Number, then I will do that.

I'm interested in the plan that gives me the most "Daytime" minutes (M-F
9:00-5:00), (or 'anytime' minutes) for the least amount of money.

Any help you can provide would be grateful.
I live in New York state, the Hudson Valley area, near Kingston and the
    Catskills.

    Thank you,
    Mountain Man

I can't speak to the network, but how many minutes do you plan on using?
T-Mobile gives you $100/1000minutes, good for a year, so for an
occasional user, you can't beat the price for prepaid.

For a monthly plan, how many minutes do you want to use, and/or how much
    do you want to spend?

T-Mobile's slogan is "The Most Whenever Minutes" and $39.99 gets you
1500/month. I don't really know if you can beat that or not, but for my
usage patterns (A ton of use for a week or two, then none for months at
a time), T-Mobile is the cheapest by far.

For 18000 daytime minutes... That's $0.02/minute. It all depends on
your usage pattern, but $100 gets you 1000 minutes with a 1 year expiry,
and after that you can put in smaller cards and maintain your 1 year
expiry date (1 year from whenever you add minutes).

    $0.10/minute isn't bad for prepaid...

How many minutes are you using on a monthly basis? -- Without knowing
that, it's impossible to even guess at what type of plan would be best.

yeah. plus you can get a discount on the 100 buck card and get the
cost down to 9.2 cents or so. another thing, that 39.99 plan is
before all the fees and taxes so I would imagine you are actually
looking at 47 bucks a month (maybe more)which puts it closer to 3
cents, and with that you get a contract also.
