How to use a Nokia cell phone?

I bought a used Nokia 252 from Ebay. I dont plan to get service for
it, I just bought it so my elderly wife can call 911 if the car breaks
down or something. Neither of us has ever used a cell phone and there
were no instructions with it. I figured out how to plug in the
charger and let it charge for a whole day so it should be charged.
I just removed it from the charger and dont know what to do next. I
pressed the buttons that say SEND END MENU OK ABC CLR. Nothing
happens. I pushed a bunch of the number keys too, and some arrows.
There is also a small button with red print but my poor eyesight can
not see red print so I dont know that that is for. Its rugh below the
antenna so I am guessing it makes the antenna pop up, or locks it
down.

Anyhow, does anyone know where on the web I might be able to find a
user manual to download? NOKIA 252 model.

All help appreciated.

I already asked the seller and he dont have a manual. These things
are complicated and we have never been exposed to them. I guess cell
phones are designed for people under 30. That leaves us out.

One other question. On the bottom of the phone, next to the power
plug there are a bunch of gold colored metal things (about 10 of
them). What are those for? They kind of look like the edge on a
computer card.

Thank You

Joseph

In general, the best place to find a user's manual is on the manufacturer's website.

Have a look at:

http://www.nokiausa.com/support/user...go.x=16&go.y=6

Good Luck!

Thank You

That's just what I was looking for.
I had tried nokia.com but that only had advertising for service.
I figured there was more to it.
I just downloaded that PDF and so far I figured out how to turn it on.
That sure helps... Looks like I will be playing with this thing all
day. There's a lot to read there, but it's starting to make sense.

Glad to help!

If you're just using the phone for 911 calls, keep the phone charged,
make sure the phone is unlocked, and that should do it.

Hopefully, you'll never have to use it! <g>

By the way, if I were you, I'd stop referring to my wife as "elderly."

If you don't, you're gonna have a reason to call "911!" <G>

I hear ya about the wife..... She better not hear me say that... We're
both elderly, but I worry about her. Myself, if the car breaks down I
just get out my tools.

I have pretty much figured it out, and I did dial my home number and
got an operator that said I should enter a calling card number. I
read about that in the manual, and while I was able to figure out the
phone pretty well, that calling card business has me puzzled.
Like I said this is just for emergency use, but if I could get a
calling card to use from time to time I might get one. I dont want
monthly service though. Money is tight and we would unlikely use the
thing enough. Heck we rarely use the home phone very much.
But I'm totally puzzled about the calling cards. I have gotten these
cards at the local drug store that I can use at home and they are
cheaper than my regular long distance service. Are those the same
cards used on these cell phones, or do I need special ones that are
just for cell phones?

I'd appreciate a little help on this.

Thanks

Joseph

Re: How to use a Nokia cell phone?

I bought up a used/refurbished Nokia 1100 from TracFone for $20 and
it came with some minutes included. I got another 100 minutes for
$5.00 from a guy on this site that used the "refer a friend" tracfone
deal. The minutes expire sometime in June and I'll have to either
buy a card or refer a friend at that time.

So for a grand total of about $40 a year, I have a cell phone for
emergencies and the little bit of use I have planned for it.

All the other plans cost 30 to 40 a month for the cheapest plans.
