Until recently gobeyondwireless offered a prepaid tdma plan, with
minutes that didn't expire (as long as you used 1 minute every 2
months. They have just stopped offering new activations, and are
transitioning to gsm with expirations.
Is there any other prepaid cellular company that offers minutes that
don't exipre without recharge?

You can't get it for free.
The only way they can keep you on the network is if you continue to use minutes and spend money. Tracfone has a one year card and T-Mobile has the 1 year of access and 1000 minutes for 100 bucks. The cost of being on a network from the network operaters view is probabaly about 10 buck a month. I use a tracfone mainly as a pager because I'm usually around a phone and I just call back. My website has a bunch of info on most of the prepaid plans all in one place. I'm not sure if I can plug it here but

Yes, beyond wireless is now GSM, reselling cingulars network.
Yes, there is a prepaid with minimum use only, similar to the old beyond wireless. Alltel has their U prepaid http://www.alltelu.com/pay-per-minute.jsp.
The minute to minute plan is $.15/min all the time. You must make one call every 30 days. Minutes roll over indefinitely without the need to refill as long as you make the one call per month. If no call that month then you get charged $4. With the old Beyond Wireless, if no call then you lose all your minutes.
