EDGE is an enhanced
GPRS and these two are for data
transfer. It is possible to have
GSM available without
GPRS/
EDGE available
as I have seen happen here in Lacey, Wa with my Data only card since voice
is circuit switched. It would be possible to set up a circuit switched data
connection under such circumstances using a regular dialup isp but it is
horribly slow and will cost as voice minutes.
GPRS is General Packet Radio
Service which is packetized data and of course as I said,
EDGE is the
enhanced faster version. The parameters as far as commands are pretty much
the same for both, the hardware and the tower both have to be capable to
get the faster speeds of course. Unless the device itself and the software
are capable of discerning between plain
GPRS and
EDGE, you will only know
by the transfer speeds you see which are quite obvious.
