On March 15th I activated my Tracfone Motorola V170. From the Tracfone
website, they said I could port my phone number and minutes from my
current Tracfone (a V120). I called on the 15th, case 11145167, and they
said they could port it and would send a new SIM and to call them when
received (case 11145167). I received the SIM by DHL in a few days, and
called them, where they activated the phone with the new SIM but said
they couldn't port the number until fully active. I called the next day,
and was then informed they couldn't port the number automatically and
would have to put in a number request to take 10 days and would receive
a new SIM (case 11168767). My phone was deactivated, and even the old
SIM wouldn't work. I called after 10 days an not receiving the SIM, when
they told me that they could not port CDMA numbers to GSM in my area. (I
had to call, making my wonder why they ask for an email and phone
number). I was then told to put back my last SIM (received by DHL) and
they would activate it. When they did this, I lost my 368 units. They
are now making me wait another 5 days (said 30 at first) to validate I
am not lying, and in the meantime have no units.

Sounds like a nightmare. Wake me before it gets worse!
There are local porting rules in every calling area that TracFone may not
even be aware of before they make the claim that porting is possible.
Why they even advertise they can port numbers I don't know. TracFone is at
an extreme disadvantage when it comes to porting numbers. They have to get
one carrier to release the number, and a 2nd carrier to accept the new
number. Both carriers have to be in the same market or calling area, or it
won't work.
Example: Even porting a post paid Cingular cellphone to a TracFone that
uses the Cingular network would be a problem. I'm not sure this would even
meet "porting" criteria, because the carrier remains the same.
Conclusion: Odds are not good that porting a number to TracFone will ever
be successful. Porting nightmares abound, regardless of the carriers
involved. So this is not only a problem for TracFone users.
I don't think TracFone can even transfer a number from one TracFone to
another TracFone. Even if both TracFones use the same technology. I had
this fear recently when my TracFone started acting up. I thought I was
going to have to replace it. Thankfully, after reassembly, the problem
resolved itself. If I had to replace the TracFone, I would have probably
lost my number.
Why don't you post your complaint at www.planetfeedback.com and this will
get TracFone's Executive Resolution Department in Miami involved within 24
hours of posting. If they can't help you, then nobody can.
Good luck and keep your patience! It will take weeks to resolve these
issues.
