One fact that Vonage conveniently fails to disclose is that a full 25% of
its customers leave the service in their first year. I have a similar
offering from Verizon ("VoiceWing") and there is a definite reduction in the
quality of the audio on VoIP. Some people can accept it, others cannot.
There is also a latency factor, where it takes a moment before one's voice
is heard on the other end of the conversation. This can vary from one call
to another.
Vonage has not turned a single cent in profit since it began. I see VoIP as
a solution for "cheap" phone service, but it is not of equal quality to
POTS.
