    There is a cost to supplying the names...a continuing cost that takes
    away from profits.

    There is also a possiblity that the release of names may be a future
    option that you will get to pay for... ;<)

    How much would you pay to get the caller's name?

    How about the callee's name?

    Actually, no.

    There can be an agreement between a cellular carrier and a LEC that the LEC
    will allow the cellco to dip into the database to retrieve the names.

    But it's not there by default.

    Rogers (GSM) in Canada already provides name display at additional cost.

    You guess incorrectly. The number is passed, the receiving telco then
    needs to look up the name in the originating telco's database.
