TracFone will introduce a new flip style model:
(The only way I could get info on this new model
was from www.tracfone.com by downloading
the user manual on the "Phones" page)
Model: LG 3280
? Advanced and compact
? Designed to operate with the latest digital mobile
communication technology
? Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) and Advanced
Mobile Phone Service (AMPS). Trimode capability.
? Significantly enhanced voice clarity
? Large, easy-to-read, 7-line backlight LCD with
status icons.
? Paging, messaging, voice mail, and caller ID.
? 18-key keypad.
? Speaker phone feature.
? Menu-driven interface with prompts for easy
operation and configuration.
? Any key answer, auto answer, auto retry, one-touch
and speed dialing with 99 memory locations.
? Bilingual (English and Spanish) capabilities.
? Band cdma2000 1xRTT AirInterface Advanced
Mobile Phone Service
? Prepaid Menu: Add Airtime, Buy Airtime,
My Phone Number, Airtime Info, Airtime Display,
My ESN, and Code Entry Mode
Like all of the current GSM model TracFones,
adding airtime with this new LG will be a cinch.
Just type the PIN directly off the airtime card
into the "Add Airtime" choice in the Prepaid
menu (above) and the minutes will add automatically.
No more logging into www.tracfone.com or calling
customer service to add minutes.
I don't know how the "Buy Airtime" feature will
work, but I'm sure better airtime deals will be found
at Walmart. Interesting new feature none the less.
It might come in handy for emergencies, or when
on the road not near a department store or 7-11.
To find out if you can activate this new model
in your home zip code, you will have to go to
www.tracfone.com and choose
"Coverage Maps".
See if any of the following other CDMA
models are listed for your zip code:
c343, 2126, v120, v60i, 2285, and 5180i
If none of these CDMA models are listed for
the Coverage Map in your zip code, you will
not be able to activate an LG 3280 *and* have
a local number. In that case, just activate it using
a different area code and zip code. No problemo!
If TracFone has specials on this new model
before Christmas, I might decide its time for
an upgrade of the old 5180i I've been using
for the past 5 years.
I really like this new model! Its the only
flip style CDMA model TracFone has beside
the old, discontinued, and impossible to get
now Motorola v60i.

If you activate it in a different zip code, won't people who call you
locally have to pay long distance?

Thats an issue with prepaid phones even if you use your local ZIP. I
know a few people who have them and none have a local number. When they
asked they were informed that none were available.

JoshIII wonders:
I bet none of them are using TracFone.

JoshIII agrees:
Yes, in this case, others that call you would have to
place a LD call to reach your TracFone....but
don't all post paid cellphone plans offer
free LD? All the prepaid plans I know
offer free LD.
You can activate either a GSM or CDMA TracFone in
every zip code *and* receive a local number (the local
carrier agreements with TracFone determine the
particular phone models you can activate for your zip code)..
The point I was making in an earlier post: For example,
if CDMA models are not listed on the www.TracFone.com
Coverage Maps for your zipcode, and CDMA is
the technology you require (for the model you want),
then you can find another zip code where activations
for that technology (CDMA) are allowed.

TracFone - Now with International calling
at the same rate as any local call
(when using any TracFone).

Re: TracFone to Intro New LG Flip Phone
Have the Motorola TDMA V60i version tracfone and I need a zip code I can
activate it in.
Just purchased it new from Amazon.com a few weeks ago.
Every zip I have tried so far will not allow me to activate it and customer
assistance just wants to send me
a crappy V170 phone to replace it with.
Know of any zip codes that will work? Thanks, Bob

My neighbor was. When I looked up the number they gave her it was from a
town that is 60 miles from here.

JoshIII wonders:
What is your neighbor's zip code?
