Sure I could blame them, if any of it actually went to T-Mobile. Do you
get mad at your local retailer for "stealing" the 7 or 8% they charge you
in sales tax?

Sure, except it doesn't apply here.
If you don't like the taxes where you live, run for public office and
lower them, or move someplace where they're cheaper. Here in Denver, my
$44.99 T-Mo plan comes to $49.75 including all taxes and fees. Just over
10% of the total- a bargain as telecommunications taxes go...
