Dear group,

I have a new Sony Ericsson K800. I can successfully install PC suite
(1.20.237) on my PC (a Sony Vaio running Win XP pro). When I connect
the handset to the PC by the USB cable, I am able to install a number
of the drivers.

However, some fail to install, including (in "phone mode"):

- 039 USB WMC modem ("could not load the installer for modem. Contact
your hardware vendor for assistance")
- USB WMC OBEX interface ("could not load the installer for ports.
Contact your hardware vendor for assistance")
- USB WMC device management ("could not load the installer for ports.
Contact your hardware vendor for assistance")

In "file transfer mode", the S_WHCM driver also fails to install.

As a result, the phone is not recognised by PC Suite, which prevents
synchronisation - a considerable limitation!

As I can install PC Suite and the phone on another PC running less
software than my Vaio, I suspect a software conflict. Suspects
include:
- Windows Defender (1.1.1347.0);
- Microsoft ActiveSync (4.2) to connect my Dell Axim 30 (on which I run
AvantGo v3.3.1302)
- Firefox (2.0)
I am most suspicious of the second.

Have any list members encountered Axim/Sony Ericsson conflicts in the
past? If so, are they terminal, or is there a way to resolve them
without abandoning one or the other piece of hardware?

Thank you in advance,

Colin
