An eighteen year old Florida woman was rushed to surgery this week
when he mother discovered that her ear had grown into her cellphone.
This young woman had been on this phone non-stop for over three years,
and he ear had grown into the phone. Surgeons sucessfully removed the
phone after extensive surgery lasting over 5 hours. Doctors report
that she will physically survive without further problems, but they
said her ear will be permanently disfigured, and her hearing in that
ear is damaged. The phone itself did not survive as it had to be
destroyed during the surgical procedure. Besides the surgery, the
doctors and her parents require that she get mental health counseling
and will not be allowed to own another cell phone until she is at
least 21 years of age. Presently, she will not be allowed to use any
telephone for more than 20 minutes per day, and must be under adult
supervision during all telephone use. Doctors reported this is the
first time they have ever seen this sort of incident.
