Alltel Broadband in Piedmont NC

I am located in both Guilford County and Rockingham County, NC.

I have Alltel cellular broadband.

At times, it is as hot as it can be.

Then other times, like last night and this morning, I get dropped
connections so close together that it makes accomplishing anything almost
impossible.

If anyone else here is using this service in the same area, I would
appreciate a comment as to your service. I am trying to determine whether
it is my equipment or Alltel updating their equipment.

I doubt that it is my equipment because if it were, it would be
unsatisfactory every day, not just some days.

If anyone knows whether it is Alltel and if so what and when they plan to
do something about it, please comment.

Finally, is there a better service in this area?

I have Alltel EVDO in Charleston, SC, hardly the same area, but
the same service. My experience is similar to yours. What
frustrates the hell out of me is the Motorola E815 REBOOTING
during my data calls.

It runs fine for long periods, then, usually just after I've
spent an incredible time wading through a bunch of webpages to
get some video playing I want to see....BEEP!....Dumped! It's
done this on my BT-connected laptop and my Nokia N800 new
internet tablet. It also did it BEFORE I started using BT modem
service when I bought Axcess TV (MobiTV's Alltel brand). The TV
would run for many minutes to many hours, then, BEEP!...reboot.
It logs right back on, but jumping through the same hoops again
to get it running sucks!

Except for that, it runs great! I drive around Charleston, even
out into the country, with the Nokia N800 connected to the big
stereo and BT connected to my Alltel E815 "modem" playing MP3
from Orb at home to my "Interstate Radio Station", or playing an
internet radio feed from far off somewhere.

Speakeasy's speed test to the Atlanta server hovers around
600Kbps down and 100Kbps up, plenty fast for radio feeds if
you're not loading it all up with something else.

Get a phone that doesn't have the pointy M logo on it. (I'm serious. I'd
finally found a great Moto handset that I actually liked, even though I only
bought it because at the time it was the only T-Mo phone with a certain
feature I needed. Then the keypad broke - and I couldn't turn the phone on
without plugging it into a USB port on my computer, because it was the
hangup/power key that didn't work! And for three days after FedEx said they
delivered my phone to Motorola, Motorola had no clue where it was, and
during the repair they had no information for me, at all. Motorola managed
to torpedo any chances of me buying another one of their phones, after I'd
finally found a phone that wasn't a piece of crap. Eventually I'll post the
entire story on alt.cellular.motorola...)

Thanks.

So that confirms my belief that it is not my equipment.

I wonder how this compares to other similar services.

This morning, my service is great. Last night, it was so bad it would
drip before I could post my question.
