Spam, plain and simple. Imagine if everyone advertised their phones on
these newsgroups how useless they'd be.

Yet Larry has no problem spamming for Skype in the cellular newsgroups.

But to be fair to Larry (aw, do I HAVE to?) his "spam" doesn't benefit
himself personally- it's more of a misguided advocacy, like Oxford's iPhone
trolling, (except Larry's are USUALLY more grounded in reality.)

Let me put this into perspective.

There are plenty of threads where he's replied "Skype's this, Skype's that,"
where the replies are useless in the context of cellular, but not spam.

Then he starts new threads about certain Skype services or how some Skype
handsets are on sale or something. THOSE are unquestionably spam.

Larry has no pecuinary interest in Skype, like this joker does in
those sellphones. There IS a difference.

Again, for the uninformed, pecuinary interest. I stand to gain
nothing from you buying anything I report. Not a dime.

Skype IS related to SELLular, now that I'm using Skype over
Alltel EVDO for comms, especially overseas comms. I talked to
Baghdad, Iraq this morning on Skype-over-Alltel-EVDO getting a
signal report from one of my Air Force friends about how well his
Orb (corp.orb.com) is sending the local cable TV channels to him
from his house on Time-Warner Road Runner to military broadband
in his tent. I was driving down Interstate 26 towards breakfast
at the time. It didn't even cost me airtime as I pay $25/mo for
EVDO Unlimited on Alltel. Oh, and Orb was making many friends in
the tents in Iraq....my little direct support for the troops.

Is Orb spamming, too?

Nope...I don't work for Orb...which is free!

Your attempts to deny me my 1st Amendment rights are duly noted, my

Noncommercial does not necessarily mean on-topic.

> Skype IS related to SELLular

VoIP is related to SELLular (I do like that term :>) much the same as POTS is.
It's a competing technology that uses something other than public airwaves to
transmit your conversations.

However, alt.cellular.* isn't about VoIP. Or POTS.

Honestly, as long as you're replying within the context of a certain
thread, and advocating using Skype, I don't consider it off-topic and don't
care if you post it.

Again, it's the unsolicited "hey, look at this Skype widget" type of post that
I consider unwelcome clutter.

Your attitude doesn't surprise me. It's not spam as long as it pushes
YOUR agenda.

You have no First Amendment rights where Usenet is concerned.

> You can kiss my goyum ass.....(c;

Nice try, but you may want to get your ignorant, illiterate redneck
ass over to the library and actually read the First Amendment... after
you stop French-kissing your sister. (I'll see your Zionist crack and
raise you a pair of redneck stereotypes.)

What part of "Congress shall make no law" did you fail to understand?
Or do you now get your newsgroup access from the government, instead
of a private company?

Whose sellphones?

Are you going to call me a Verizon shill again? Do I need to point people
to the a.c.v thread where I ranted about their lack of clue a few years ago?

Agreed.

I guess it comes down to your definition of spam- without any benefit to
the poster, I guess I just consider them off-topic posts.

This is exactly why I no longer use Ebay. If ebay allows spammers to
advertise all over the internet, I refuse to use them. (not to
mention all the crooks that sell on ebay these days).

Re: SPAM: eBay: AT&T Pantech Duo

i agree about spam mail on newsgroups However I take offence at the ebay
comments. I have been buying/selling on ebay since 1998. I have never been
ripped off because I take time to read the ad carefully, read the feedback
and ask questions Before bidding. If you got had it is due to your lack of
action.!

Exactly. though electronics are the worst items to buy on eBay. since
most everyone overbids or pays retail.
