Oops! The Samsung Sync went thru the washer. I like the phone, but is it
worth having someone look at it? It appears to be perfect, but won't turn
on, or indicate it is being charged. Maybe I should try to open it myself?

Never did that myself. but try this.
since it got wet anyway.. take out the battery and saok it in
distilled water. let it dry for a week or so. The distilled water will
remove any minerals that may have been in the wash water. secondly
you need to let it dry for at least a week to get the water to
evapate. After you let it dry for a week. put the battery back in and
see if it works. if not... you tried! Forget taking it appart! Today's
circits are teeny! as are the screws! Best to get a used one on Ebay
if all else fails.
