I am in the UK and have a friend from the UK who has gone on holiday to
the US with her UK cell phone. She is using her UK cell phone in the US
and is in New York. I need to send her an SMS/text message but can’t
seem to do it. I have removed the usual leading ‘0’ from her number
and instead put the +1 for the US country code, but it’s not working.
Could someone please let me know where I’ve gone wrong and what number
I should be using, it’s urgent! Do I, ofr example, need to add the city
code, or something like that..?
Thanks so much!

The "+1" is the US country code for US phone numbers- not for people
traveling to the US with their home phones.
Have you tried just texting her in the usual fashion? Normally, when
someone roams abroad you still call or text them in the normal fashion as
if they were home and the mobile operators figure it all out.

No- again, that would only be if she were using a local US phone. Just
pretend she never left the UK and text her as if she didn't.
