    Hi Everyone ...

Bad news ... My Moto Q which I've had for 9 months fell in the pool
this evening, and I'm afraid it's hosed. I'd say let it dry out, but
there's water behind the screen so I doubt it'll work.

I have Alltel service and pay the monthly fee for insurance, so I
wanted to see if anyone has experience with getting a phone replaced
after it's been wet like this.

    Thanks --

    Alex

Hope you have already taken out the battery. If not, do so immediately.
Put the phone in the sun and let it dry throughly.

There is a moisture indicator in the phone, either behind the battery or
even hidden inside the casing. It turns red on contact with water, so
there is no hiding that the phone got wet. What does the insurance
    policy say about water damage?

    Hi Andreas,

I checked the dot right after pulling it out when I took out the
battery, and it was red ... which I expected it to be. My concern is
that Alltel will give me a fit over this, which is why I hoped to find
    someone who might've taken a phone in a similar condition. I don't
see anyway of getting the water out from behind the display, and even
if it did dry out, the water spots will undoubtedly stay.

I'm trying to find the policy online, but I don't konw if they publish
    it.

    Thanks --

    Just a quick follow-up...

This morning I threw the Moto Q into my shirt pocket to take back to
Alltel for replacement, and in doing so just put the battery back in
thinking it was a lost cause. When I got in the car I checked the
phone outta habit, and it was on! I made a few calls on the way to
work, and it seems to be working perfectly. I can't believe, 5
minutes in a pool at about 4 feet deep. I haven't tested every button
or feature, so I'm sure there will be some issues ... but if I can put
off paying the $145 fee for replacement that'll be nice.

But the only signs that it's been wet are of course the moisture spots
bled and also water spots on the inside of the display ... but I can
    live with that

So kudos to Motorola on a fine built phone for once.

    Damn....ANOTHER reason NOT to get an iPHone!.....(c;

The water spots wipe right off if you find a tech to take it apart,
carefully, and pull the display apart to dry it out. Water doesn't destroy
    them....er, ah....unless it's SEAWATER...(c;

After paying the deductable and if you chose the $7 per month insurance
plan, Asurian will send you another Q within days. It doesn't matter if it
fell in the pool or you stomped on it because your girlfriend broke up with
you. And you can do all that twice in one calendar year.
