Phone Database (beta)

Today Cell Phone Forums released the beta of our phone database.

You will noticed an abundance of information on over 1500 phones! This includes:

• Detailed specs
• Photo gallery
• Buying information
• Integrated comment system

You will also see an update for user phone information. You will now have the choice to select your phone and provider to have them displayed next to your posts. (see left for an example) Your old phone information will not show.

Enjoy! Post here any bugs you find or comments you have.

Is that a redirect page? What's the point of that?

Renaming and titling a URL for posting on different websites.

Hum, that's a bad idea - it seems like some of the javascript is being stripped out (since it is hiding the actual address). Not to mention search engine benefits of directly linking to a webpage are null.

If the goal is to make the URL shorter, I can setup a subdomain that redirects to the actual location.

Very cool! You are missing some info on the Voyager though. Czecho just told me the Voyager uses Flash 7 or lower, and the Live TV service is MediaFLO. It's a great start though!! The icon option is a nice extra touch!

Yeh, some data may not be as complete as it can.

I'm still undecided if I like the icon where it is. It seems to cluttered when on the left under the username.

I haven't seen it listed under the user name. Maybe you can make the image smaller and then it won't take up so much room. Or maybe you can find a way to have it listed on the right side of the post. There is nothing on that side. I don't know anything about running a forum site; so I don't know what options you are given.

prob can't make the image any smaller without being able to tell what the phone is. The good thing is I can put it wherever I want

It's a good idea though! I'm sure other web forums will start doing this soon. When someone posts a question, you then get to see a photo of the phone they have. Because phone model numbers and names kind of blend in together after a while. If someone said they own the LG VX1000, a lot of people have not idea what that phone is. But if they see a picture then it all makes more sense.
