Will Apple Iphone unlocked work with Tracfone/StraightTalk

Im switching to ST and was wondering if it mattered what ST GSM phone i got. I know a lot of people have the E71, but $200 for a sim is pretty pricey. Could I use SAMSUNG T255G it uses the GSM network?

With the upcoming expectation that Verizon will offer service for the Iphone sometime in 2011, will this change the answers above? If the iphone will work on Verizon service, would that mean it will work on Straight Talk service, which I understand uses Verizon's network?

The only way this will work is if the phone is Verizon Branded, or has the right Chipset for the network. However, you will still need to find out if the Straighttalk service will allow outside phones to be used on their network, and if you need to flash the phone, or just give them the info. Just because a phone is on the same network, doesn't mean they will support it or provide service to it, however I find that kind of dumb :dumb:

i bought a brand new AT&T iphone today that hasnt been unlocked and im a able to talk and text but without internet and mms. still have WiFi

any help would be greatly apprieciated

Straight Talk uses both networks. My sister in law has an older CDMA ST phone and I have the Nokia E71 GSM phone. I put my sim card in my old iPhone 3G and it works. I can place calls and send/receive txts. The only thing that wont work is the MMS and the data for apps and internet. I can only assume if someone came up with a carrier bundle this could be fixed.

Legality: I haven't drudged through the Terms Of Service yet to see what it states. I've skimmed through it and nothing stuck out.

If anyone has anything else to add would be great.

ok if you haven't found it yet or not here it is:

Basically, as most of you know... you can place and receive calls... and the same with txts... BUT no MMS or internet... well the solution is simple...

1. Power off iphone
2. insert ST sim
3. Power on iphone
4. Option A: Manually edit your APN info using the iphone config utility OPTION B: download the premade ST carrier file. I did option B and everything works great.

Premade carrier file: StraightTalk.mobileconfig

What I did to get the carrier file on the iphone was just simply emailed the above link to myself... checked my email on my iphone using Wifi and clicked start download. It asks if you wanna install the file... simply select install. Viola!! done!

I'll take credit for distributing VERY hard to find information... but not for the info itself.... yeah i thought my MMS went through but come to find out it didn't... I looked at the carrier file and everything seems to be ok... not sure what the deal is... I'm going to do some digging and experimenting... maybe I can get it working...

Hi guys, what phones did you buy to make it work with Iphone? i dont care about mms but as long as i can get calls/textz/3g data working I am sooooooooooo ready to move to straight talk

i bought the Nokia E71 $199.00 at wally world . the initial cost is kinda high but cheaper in the long run. i dont know if any straight talk sim card will work but i will try and find out . also if you need to send mms picture messages you can download the text now app from app store for free
