yea i kow but i just found out that not it has to be E71 sim in order to function in an iphone.. tried it with the t401g sim with the $45 plan with no success...

It does work if you take the sim out of one of the new Nokia Smart phones. Talk, text should work right away in an ATT or an unlocked GSM phone. The data will also work. You just need to go in and change the data settings to those of the prepaid GSM phones and yes it works. i am running two iphones with full function and using the straight talk plan. Works great!

Bigmama, does your visual voicemail work? I got a sim from an E71 and put it in my iphone and downloaded the carrier file as Samuel had suggested. Everything seems to work the same except for the visual voice mail.

I am sorry, but I don't know what visual voice mail is.

Visual voice mail is what you get on an iphone when you retrieve your phone messages. It contains a list of all the voice mails you got, you can select any of them and play them, as well as pause and rewind them. I'm sure you've used it. It's a very nice feature.

Try accessing your phone messages with the ST sim in your iphone and see if it still works the way it worked with the ATT sim. In mine, it makes a phone call to the message box.

Yeah it does not seem to be there. When I go to voice mail it just dial in to retreive my messages.

That's what I get too. Maybe somebody smarter than us can get it working - it's a nice feature. Still for a savings of $30/month and unlimited data and minutes, I'm willing to sacrifice a bit.

I have LG 420G, I put sim card in iphone 3G and it did not work.
I am banking that the sim card is locked into the IMEI number in the LG 420G.
There is no way to change the IMEI on a 3G. However you can change it on an iPhone 2G.
So I just ordered a 2G on Ebay today and Im going to try it!
Wish me luck. I will post my results.

I think if you take the ZIP file he mentions... unzip it to where its a true .IPCC file... and email it to yourself and use wifi on your iPhone. When you click on the .IPCC file attachment it should install all your settings... Not much time to experiment this morning... will update later today...

So I got my safelink phone in the mail today.
It's an LG320G tracphone branded. I have not turned it on.
It came with a card that has the IMEI number on it.
the directions say:
-charge battery for 5 hours
-press menu key
-select prepaid and push ok
-press ok again to add airtime
-dial 555 and press ok, if prompted for promo code select no.

That zip file is for ST not tracfone/safelink... Would it still work?
If you can change the Imei on the iphone 2g which I have, how do you do it and will that work?
So far I haven't done anything, haven't turned on or activated anything.
What steps are my best bet to get this working?

I purchase a straight talk phone just for the sim card to use in my iphone. I will not work. Did you have to do anything special to get yours to work???

But there is a catch ; There will be no data connection untill someone finds a work around that problem.I tired to use my straight talk GSM sim (which came with my Nokia e71-straight talk) and it worked like charm on my unlocked iphone 3gs and also on my HTC HD2 but these are smart phones and they are useless without the data connection.If you are o.k without data go for it as long as you have an unlocked phone.

For those of you who've made the change to ST on your iphone and miss the visual voicemail, I found a solution that works quite well. It's an app called YouMail. You simply install it, register and log in and it will add in your "contacts" list two phone numbers - one called "YouMail Activate" and another "YouMail Deactivate". By dialing "YouMail Activate" it send a code to the carrier to conditionally forward unanswered or busy calls to YouMail which then notifies you that you got a message by putting a number on top of the YouMail app icon. When you touch it opens the app and presents you with the visual voicemail controls which work similarly to the default voicemail control, except that YouMail has more options.

To turn off the feature you simple dial "YouMail Deactivate". For a monthly fee you can also have the voicemail in text format.

You can do a very similar thing with Google Voice, although it's not as "plug-and-play" as youmail. If anyone is interested in doing that, let me know.

Do you mind if I ask how your 3gs is ublocked/jailbroken because my 3gs that is unlocked/jailbroken and will only see the Straight Talk sim card and get service some of the time. I can go into settings and see the phone number but like I said it only works 20% of the time. It dose work on t-mobile. Whats you Firmware. Thanks for any help you can give me.

did you test how good straight talk service was in ur area?

El 10 de Febrero o sea el Viernes, sale al mercado el Iphone 4g de Verizon. Eso quiere decir que los que viven en areas donde se usa la red de Verizon ahora puedes tener un Straight Talk tipo Iphone 4g pues es de Verizon. Me imagino que hay que programar la red de Straight Talk con la de Verizon pues esa es la que tenemos por lo menos yo que tengo un ST Samsung R355c y no he tenido ni una llamada perdida ni tiene contrato. Sera fantastico que el Iphone 4g pueda trabajar con Straight Talk y todos us celulares. Yo pago $45 al mes ilimitado, se imaginan que ahorros con el Iphone 4g de Verizon por esa cantidad? Vamos a ver el viernes que yo estare llamando para averiguar. Suerte a los que quieren cambiarse a ST y tener el Iphone 4g de Verizon.
