I don't know about you guys here, but I'm wondering if the iPhone 4 is the best phone. I'm thinking of getting one, but I don't know. A site was pretty persuading on telling me that the iPhone 4 beats all the other hi-tech phones there. But before I'm making up my mind, I decided I should ask some people who really know their stuff. I don't want to make a mistake and have to return it or anything like that.HTC Evo, BlackBerry, Nokia N96 vs. iPhone 4 Review saids it's the best phone. It works with so many apps too. So tell me what you guys think.

Re: Is The iPhone 4 the best phone to this date?

There's alot of new phones on the market in recent times, and some of them are beginning to compare pretty closely with the iPhone 4. For example, the Samsung Galaxy S line (Vibrant/Captivate,Epic,Facinate) is a great hunk of hardware. HTC puts out some nice stuff like Windows phone 7, TMobile G2, myTouch 4G, etc. However, the best competition out there runs either Android or Windows Phone 7. Blackberry's latest, the torch, is a slow, clunky, low rez piece of hardware with an improved OS and much improved browser, but no one considers it even close to competing with the iPhone 4. The story on WinPhone 7 is still out, so it's tough to compare that OS against iOS4 or Android. Word is, Microsoft has done alot of work on it, and it's supposedly pretty good, stable, and has some innovative features in the interface, but it is as yet unproven, and if you tend to think that previous products indicate the quality of this latest addition, then it probably isn't all it's cracked up to be.

So, let's compare hardware, software, and some other issues and see how the iPhone 4 stacks up.

    Hardware:
The iPhone 4 has a fast A4 processor, a extremely high resolution display with an unmatched viewing angle (thanks to it's IPS technology), a front facing camera, a 5 megapixel camera (back lit for extremely high quality low light photographs), the quality of the build is amazing, better than any phone on the market to date.

    The Competition:
Hard to say here... there's 50 or 60 different Android phones on the market with a wide range features and quality of build, but looking at the best of the best, a few come pretty close in terms of features and quality, but most still fall short with perhaps a higher pixel count camera, but how good are the low light pics, and can you honestly see a visual difference between a 5 mpx image and an 8? Most Android phones do not have a front facing camera, most don't have as high a quality build, but some are close enough to be considered equal to near equal as far as quality is concerned. Also, the high end Android phones have processors/memory sizes that equal or slightly surpass the iPhone 4.

    Software:
The iPhone 4 runs iOS4, which is by far more developed, and more stable than Android is. Also, with so many different Android handsets of varying processing speeds/capabilities, and the addition of carrier bloatware (something you NEVER see on an iPhone), really fragments the Android OS which causes all sorts of problems. Problems you'll NEVER have with an iPhone (any generation).

    Apps:
Well, with over 300,000 iPhone apps alone, Apple wins out here with more apps than Android, Blackberry, Windows, Palm and Nokia combined. On the flip side, Android is growing quickly, and for the vast majority of users, both Android and Apple both have enough apps to satisfy just about any user, but since the Android market is wide open, you have to contend with the possibility of downloading apps that have a virus or are phishing apps that can steal your information. People complain about the App Store being "closed" (which it's not really since anyone can submit apps), but the reality of the situation is that Apple ensures that apps work as advertised and are not malicious to users. At the end of the day, the Apple app store has the most, best, and safest software out there.

    Ease of use:
Ok, Blackberry takes the cake for being the absolute most difficult OS to use, and I'm not familiar with Win Phone 7 yet, but word has it it's pretty decent when it comes to ease of use, and Androids are so so, because there's so many different interfaces added on or available. You have the stock Android interface, but then there's HTC's Sense, Samsung's TouchWiz, aHome and Open Home, etc, so I'd put Android down on the list of ease of use because there's so many different interfaces out there.
Conversely, Apple's iOS4 is far and away easier to use than any other mobile OS hands down. It's SO intuitive that you feel like a pro at it in like 1 day, and are a pro shortly there after. When it comes to customizability, Android certainly wins because it's overly customizable, but when it comes right down to it, ease of use is probably the biggest single thing to look at because, well, you use the phone to do things, so the easier it is, the more enjoyable the experience of using it becomes.

Full Disclosure: Ok, I am a "fan boy" but I've tried my best here to be open and unbiased with my take on things here, and have also tried to explain why I think iPhone 4 is still the best choice out there. Not just wave the Apple banner, but explain why I do so. I think I did a pretty good job of explaining why, and without trying to drag the competition through the mud in the process, but rather point out the pluses that other phones have as well. It's up to you to decide how much of my bloviating here is "fan boy" and how much is "well, yeah, that makes sense".
