I notice that the iPhone 3Gs loses battery power very quickly; even when in "sleep" mode. I always charge the battery before sleep and when rising, the phone read-out shows that power decreased from 99% down to 85%. Why does it use so much power when not in use? I see folks carry their phones around all day with the screens left-on yet I always worry that my phone will lose power on the road. Is my loss of power normal?

Re: Battery Loses Power
Here's some steps you can take:
- Try letting your battery completely run out once a month and then fully charging it. This is supposed to be good for the life of the battery. You can go to settings>general>usage and you should see a 'time since last full charge'.
- Also, if you are running iOS 4 try tapping the home button twice to pull up recent apps. Pressing and holding any app in the menu will allow you to force apps to close. Simply tab the minus sign that appears next to any running apps
- Change the settings so the phone does not automatically look for wifi. Go to settings>general>network>wi-fi> and make sure 'Ask to Join Networks' is off

Re: Battery Loses Power
Use iPhone Regularly
For proper maintenance of a lithium-based battery, it’s important to keep the electrons in it moving occasionally.
Be sure to go through at least one charge cycle per month (charging the battery to 100% and then completely running it down).

Re: Battery Loses Power
abnormal. maybe you have to replace it or get a backup battery and the backup battery case. then you can take your phones around all day with the screens left-on and no need to worry that your phone will lose power on the road.

Re: Battery Loses Power
I have had an iPhone 3Gs for over a year now and sometimes I will have battery problems but usually I can solve those with letting the battery drain, turning off the phone and turning it on again and closing apps that are running in the background.

I was bad for this too, because I had always left my WiFi on and various apps running simultaneously, did my h/w on the situation though and voila!!
