Simply just because they can. They are the only makers of iPhone. Therefore they don't have to compete with other devices that run the same operating system and all of the other stuff.

Its so expensive because they can charge what they want for it... Because that's exactly how many people see them.

Think about what you will spend on your plan over 2 years. $2000? The $200 cost is negligible. You get what you pay for.
