Can you transfer a number to AT&T if not in your name?

So my mother doesn't have to worry about the mobile bill anymore I'm going to get her on my account at AT&T.

She doesn't *have* to keep her number, but if possible we'll try.

Her current phone is in my father's name.

My account is obviously in my name.

Would they let me transfer her number over to her new phone at AT&T, or do the names have to match up?
